As is customary for these events it rained. Luckily rugby is a game that is great to play in the rain but please spare a thought for the poor souls who mark out the pitches beforehand!!
On to proceedings. The first tournament had been touch and it is always tough to get a good handle on how teams will fare when contact is introduced. Festival 2 progressed on to grab-hold which encourages teams to think about line-speed in defence and running onto the ball at pace in attack.
6 teams joined us for the festival. Sadly London Nautical who were unbeaten in the first festival couldn’t make it and were replaced by Bacons College. Haberdashers and Harris Boys made it two no shows in a row!

The opening games were close affairs with ARK Allsaints and Bacons College playing out a 2 – 2 draw. Some familiar faces were spotted in the ARK Allsaints team with a couple of players belonging to the dominant Tigers U13 team which I think might help them come contact time. STAC & Sacred Heart played out a tense 0 – 1 and Charter Bermondsey (who are still finding their feet) fought well against St Michaels finally going down 0 – 3.

The ever dependable St Thomas the Apostle were having a bad day with consecutive loses against ARK Allsaints and St Michaels, Bacons lost to last years winners Sacred Heart who then lost to ARK. But one team went almost unnoticed as they notched up 3 consecutive victories to sit top of the table. It was St Michael’s day.
Well done to all players. A great day of rugby and we can’t wait to welcome you back down on Wednesday 6th December.
