Southwark RFC isn’t a typical rugby club and this isn’t your typical coaching job.

Nestled in between Peckham, Bermondsey and Camberwell, we aren’t able to sit back and wait whilst local Grammar and Public schools produce players for us.

We are extremely proactive and actively bring the game of rugby to local young people who have had no previous exposure to the sport.

Over the past seven years we have developed close relationships with 12 local secondary schools –  enabling us to deliver weekly engaging rugby sessions to 12 – 14 year olds throughout the season.

We host regular festivals throughout the season which create excitement, team-work, competition and help to aid with transition to the club.

It isn’t easy to introduce a new sport to a football saturated audience but the rewards and the talent are huge.

This is more than a coaching job.

Main responsibilities:

Provide weekly engaging coaching sessions to local Southwark Secondary schools (approx 20 hours a week). Beginning September – end of March

Work alongside existing Southwark coaches to facilitate and develop after-school sessions at the club on Wednesday & Friday for Academy (approx 6 hours a week)

Be present at the club on Sundays to help transition players from school to club whilst developing and working alongside volunteer club coaches.

Help run, develop and improve current festivals of rugby which take place six times a year.

Develop a summer tag rugby program with local primary schools in Southwark during the summer term (Mid April – End of July). This includes regular coaching sessions and one or two tournaments.

Keep up to date participation registers.

Develop and maintain relationships with secondary schools.

Run CPD sessions for teachers and Southwark RFC rugby coaches

Organise, market and run two day half-term camps during October, February, Easter and Summer holidays.

Create and run a two day summer camp during summer holidays.

Work within the new Central London Rugby Academy framework
